Student Council

The Oxbow Student Council is comprised of students elected by their
class to the council, as well as ad hoc members who join to
participate in the organization's service activities.

Student Council sponsors the annual September Welcome Back Dance,
provides after-school activities for the late September Homecoming
Weekend, including the annual Oxbow Bonfire, and also produces the
gala social event of the school year, Winter Carnival.

Winter Carnival begins with a semi-formal dance on the Thursday before
February vacation. The dance consistently draws over 350 students and
is a major fundraiser for Council activities. Winter Carnival Day, the
Friday before February vacation, consists of a day of class vs. class
competitions covering everything from snow mound, shuffleboard,
staring contest, bowling, three-point shot, indoor soccer, and
pie-eating to the six-class musical challenge.

Student Council is also involved in service projects. An annual
holiday visit to three area rest homes, with students bearing gifts
collected through Adopt an Elder is one example. Oxbow Student Council
also coordinates food drives; Green-Up Day participation; a senior
prom at Grafton County Home in New Hampshire, and a vast array of
other events particular to each school year. This year, Student
Council sponsored a TA Decorate Your Door competition. Last year,
visits to two area nursing homes to implement a DHMC elder exercise
program took place.

Student Council also awards $2,000 in scholarships annually, and is a
key funding source for other Oxbow activities.

The Oxbow Student Council meets every Wednesday at second lunch. All
are welcome.
